Getting started

  1. Connect the appliance to your ethernet network and power it on. Ethernet is the recommended connection; Wi‑Fi is optional (see Network).
  2. Use a laptop, phone, or tablet on the same office network as this appliance (same router or switch). Guest Wi‑Fi, mobile hotspots, and VPNs usually cannot reach it.
  3. Open the Admin URL shown on the kiosk display, or scan the Admin QR. It looks like https://locai-<id>.local/

Your browser will warn about the certificate the first time. That is expected for LAN HTTPS (box CA). Accept it for now, or install the box CA (below), then reload.

There is no pairing code.

On a fresh appliance, complete the first-boot wizard:

  1. Create the first platform admin account (password).
  2. Enrol TOTP in an authenticator app before you leave the wizard.
  3. Confirm organisation name, time zone, and network. Office network access is enough. Internet access stays off by default.

A default model may start loading when setup finishes. You do not need to wait for it.

LAN HTTPS uses a certificate issued by this appliance. To stop browser warnings for managed devices:

  1. Open Network or Security and download the box CA.
  2. Distribute it with your usual tooling (Group Policy, Jamf, Intune, or a manual trust store).
  3. Reload the Admin Console URL.

When you later enable public access, the company hostname uses a public certificate and does not need the box CA.

You do not need the Locai App to trial the API.

  1. Open API keys → create a key for your admin account. Copy it once when shown.
  2. Open Playground and send a test request (OpenAI or Anthropic), or list models with the key from any machine on the office network.
  3. Under Models, confirm a model is healthy (if inference returns errors).
  4. Under Users, create accounts only if people will use the Locai App.
  5. Enable internet access under Network only if you have an agreed Direct DNS plan.
