Set up public access
Until you turn on public access, Locai One is reachable only on the office network.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- You can sign in to the Admin Console from the office network.
- Locai One has an active licence and can reach the internet.
Turn on the public domain
Section titled “Turn on the public domain”Locai sets up the secure connection for you. There is nothing to configure in Cloudflare or your DNS.
- Open Network, then Public domain.
- Under Address, keep the recommended Locai address,
locai-<serial>.locai.computer, where<serial>is the Locai One serial. To use a name of your own instead, select Custom and enter it in Name, for exampleacmeforacme.locai.computer. The Admin Console checks the name as you type and says when it is available. - Select Turn on public domain. Wait until the status shows Live. Live means Locai has opened the address from the internet. Not reachable yet means Locai One is connected but the address does not open yet; a new address can take a minute or two.
- Select Copy link and send the address to users.
A custom name has 3 to 40 lower-case letters, digits and hyphens, and starts and ends with a letter or digit. No other Locai One can have it, and Locai keeps some names, such as www and support. Locai One keeps its name while the public domain is off.
Change the address
Section titled “Change the address”Select Change address, choose the new address, then select the button that shows it, for example Use acme.locai.computer. Users must open the new address, because the old one stops working straight away.
Turn off the public domain
Section titled “Turn off the public domain”Select Turn off, then Turn off again to confirm. Users outside the office lose access straight away. Locai One stays reachable on the office network, and Locai removes the address from the internet.
The public domain uses Cloudflare’s certificate. On the office network, install the certificate from Network, Advanced on managed browsers.
To put Locai One on wireless, see Connect Wi-Fi. For SSH from your laptop, see Remote access.
